(French translation coming)

Hello! My name is pronounced Rachelle, I’m a Canadian artist, musician and writer. My pronouns are she/her. I love weird and magical things.

I undertook my first year in fine art studies at the Cégep de Matane in the Gaspésie area of Québec, Canada, where I grew up. At 17 years old I moved 3 000 miles away and studied a second year in fine arts at the Okanagan University College of Kelowna in British Columbia. After shortly living in Ottawa, Ontario, I moved back to Montreal, my birthplace and current residence. Here I met my mentor and friend Alejandro Boim, reputed Argentinean artist and professor, who took me under his wing and with whom I drew and painted for about 6 years. I also studied with his partner at the time — the late, and beautifully talented Mariana Semino. I am an actively-creating artist, my current work combining a classical figurative approach with surrealism, my medium of choice being oil paint on wood or canvas, or graphite on paper.

I currently have pieces framed and on display at Campbell Picture Framing, at 4916 Sherbrooke St West in Westmount (Montreal).

I grew up in a household full of melodies and instruments. My parents practiced with their band in the basement and I mimicked their tunes on my little organ. I started playing guitar around the age of seven and, following my big sister’s taste in heavy metal, I was playing Iron Maiden at nine. It was the eighties! As a young adult, I wrote and recorded two albums (the 2nd one co-written with my husband). Though my main instrument is the guitar, I will mess around with anything I lay my hands on. I fronted the group August Elliot, singing and playing lead guitar. Future projects are currently on hold but I am trying to tame the banjo. Some of my favourite bands are Pearl Jam & Alice in Chains, most of 90s California skater punk rock, Bon Iver, Phantogram, Novo Amor, Led Zep, Hendrix, Metallica pre Black Album, The Beatles, Beck, a Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Beastie Boys, Death Cab For Cutie, Faith No More, Elliott Smith… My tastes are eclectic.

I’ve been writing poetry and song lyrics since I was about 14 yrs old. My mom said “write out your feelings”, so I did. That eventually came to include song lyrics and notebooks and notebooks of hip hop rhymes.

I have four novels on the market. I like writing strange and twisted stories, beautiful stories, playful stories. I have two unpublished novels waiting to take the next step in their existence.
